Eli Lilly:Sonefpeglutide has been granted exclusive worldwide rights (excluding South Korea) for development, manufacturing, and commercialization.

Sonefpeglutide (LAPS GLP-2 analogue), a drug candidate from Hanmi Pharmaceutical, was granted to Eli Lilly under a licensing agreement announced on May 31, granting Eli Lilly exclusive worldwide rights (excluding South Korea) to develop, manufacture, and commercialize the drug. The total transaction value is up to US$1.26 billion.
Sonefpeglutide is a novel drug candidate utilizing Hanmi’s proprietary long-acting platform technology, LAPSCOVERY™. Previously, Hanmi has had one biologic drug based on this platform approved by the U.S. FDA, and is currently conducting global clinical trials for five additional pipeline candidates utilizing the same platform.
Hanmi Pharmaceutical has been focusing on the biological functions of glucagon-like peptide-2 (GLP-2), including promoting intestinal growth, reducing inflammation, protecting and regenerating the intestinal mucosa, and has demonstrated these effects through a series of nonclinical studies. Hanmi has also presented the therapeutic potential of LAPS GLP-2 across multiple indications at major scientific conferences.
Hanmi is currently conducting a global Phase II clinical trial of Sonefpeglutide for short bowel syndrome (SBS) and will continue to advance this global Phase II trial to completion. Eli Lilly will explore additional clinical trials based on the nonclinical and clinical data of Sonefpeglutide.
Under the terms of the agreement, Hanmi will receive an upfront payment of US$75 million and may be eligible to receive up to US$1.185 billion in clinical development, regulatory approval, and commercial milestone payments. Additionally, Hanmi will be entitled to royalties on future net sales of the product.
According to the Insight database, there are currently 15 product pipelines targeting GLP-2R globally (single-target only). Among these, only one has been approved for marketing: Takeda’s teduglutide, which is approved in the United States, the European Union, Japan, and China for the treatment of short bowel syndrome. In 2025, global sales of teduglutide reached US$965 million.
