1. Indications and Usage
Primary Hypertension: Indapamide Capsules are indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension.
2. Dosage and Administration
Standard Dose: The usual dosage for adults is 2.5 mg (one capsule) once daily.
Administration: Should be taken in the morning, with or without food.
Titration: If blood pressure is not adequately controlled, the dose should not be increased arbitrarily; clinical evaluation is required.
3. Mechanism of Action
Diuretic Effect: Indapamide acts on the cortical diluting segment of the nephron, inhibiting sodium reabsorption. This increases the excretion of sodium and chloride, thereby producing an antihypertensive effect.

4. Safety and Warnings
Electrolyte Imbalance: The most significant risk is hypokalemia (low blood potassium) and hyponatremia (low blood sodium). Regular monitoring of electrolytes is essential.
Hepatic Encephalopathy: In patients with severe hepatic impairment, diuretics may precipitate hepatic encephalopathy.
Special Populations: Use with caution in patients with severe renal impairment. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to sulfonamide-derived drugs.

Common Adverse Reactions: Dizziness, fatigue, headache, nausea, and constipation.
Metabolic Effects: May cause hyperuricemia (which can exacerbate gout) and mild increases in plasma glucose.
Cardiovascular Effects: Rarely, arrhythmias may occur, particularly in the context of severe hypokalemia.

Antiarrhythmics (e.g., Amiodarone): Hypokalemia induced by indapamide may increase the risk of arrhythmias associated with class IA or III antiarrhythmics.
Cardiac Glycosides: Hypokalemia may potentiate the effects of digitalis preparations.
NSAIDs: Concurrent use may diminish the antihypertensive effect of indapamide.
Lithium: Thiazide and related diuretics may reduce lithium clearance, increasing the risk of lithium toxicity.
