On June 8, Zenshine Pharmaceutical issued a press release announcing that a new indication for its Category 1 anti-influenza novel drug Maxeloxaban Tablets (brand name: Jikeshu\u00ae) has been approved by the NMPA for the treatment of influenza in adolescents. Maxeloxaban is a next-generation influenza virus RNA polymerase PA inhibitor independently developed by Zenshine Pharmaceutical. It precisely blocks viral mRNA transcription. Unlike traditional anti-influenza drugs, which mostly act on viral surface proteins or the viral release stage, this drug targets the critical step of viral replication, resulting in more durable efficacy. This approval is based on a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase III clinical study led by Professor Zhang Wenhong and Professor Zhang Jing from Huashan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University, as well as Professor Chen Zhimin from the Children’s Hospital affiliated with Zhejiang University School of Medicine. Notably, this study is the only large-scale Phase III clinical trial conducted specifically for the adolescent influenza indication among anti-influenza PA inhibitors. The results showed that the study met its primary and secondary efficacy endpoints, demonstrating significant clinical benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Specifically, Maxeloxaban significantly shortened the time to alleviation of influenza symptoms in adolescent patients with influenza A and B. The median time to alleviation was 52 hours, compared with 82 hours in the placebo group. The median time to influenza virus RNA negativity in the treatment group was only 48 hours, approximately 60% shorter than the 111 hours observed in the placebo group, substantially reducing the risk of viral transmission. In addition, the product showed a significant alleviating effect on three common respiratory symptoms of influenza (nasal congestion, sore throat, and cough), with a median time to alleviation of 48 hours compared with 76 hours in the placebo group, achieving complete relief one day earlier. The safety profile was favorable, with the overall incidence of treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) comparable to that of the placebo group. All adverse events were tolerable, and no gastrointestinal adverse reactions were reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
