Haifukang Favipiravir Tablets

1. Indications and Usage
Favipiravir tablets are indicated for the treatment of influenza in adult patients when other anti-influenza drugs are ineffective or are unsuitable.
2. Dosage and Administration
Recommended Dosage: The standard adult course is 5 days. On Day 1, the dose is 1600 mg twice daily (total 3200 mg/day). From Day 2 to Day 5, the dose is 600 mg twice daily (total 1200 mg/day).
Administration: Tablets should be taken orally.
Renal Impairment: Dosage adjustment is required for patients with moderate to severe renal impairment; severe impairment is a contraindication.
3. Mechanism of Action
Favipiravir is a prodrug that is converted intracellularly to its active form, favipiravir riboside triphosphate. It acts as a broad-spectrum antiviral by inhibiting the viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), thereby interfering with viral transcription and replication.
4. Safety and Warnings
Pregnancy and Lactation: Favipiravir may cause fetal harm. It is contraindicated in pregnant women.
Reproductive Safety: Women of childbearing potential must use effective contraception during and for at least 7 days after treatment. Men must use condoms during and for at least 7 days after treatment to prevent exposure to the drug via semen.
Hyperuricemia: The drug may increase serum uric acid levels, potentially leading to gout or renal stones.

Common Adverse Reactions: The most common adverse reactions include elevated liver enzymes, diarrhea, and increased serum uric acid.
Clinical Research: Clinical trials have demonstrated its efficacy in inhibiting influenza virus replication, particularly when used in patients who have not responded to other antiviral therapies.
6. Drug Interactions
Allopurinol and Similar Agents: Concomitant use with xanthine oxidase inhibitors (e.g., allopurinol) may increase the risk of toxicity.
