1. Indications and Usage
Dry Eye Disease: Indicated for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease associated with meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) in adults.
2. Dosage and Administration
Route of Administration: Ophthalmic instillation ONLY.
Recommended Dosage: One drop in each affected eye four times daily.
Administration Details: The bottle does not contain a preservative. Once opened, the product may be used until the expiration date printed on the package.
Contact Lenses: Patients must remove contact lenses prior to administration. Contact lenses should not be reinserted for at least 30 minutes after instillation.
3. Mechanism of Action
Evaporation Inhibition: Perfluorohexyloctane has extremely low surface tension and rapidly spreads across the ocular surface. It forms a functional stabilizer at the air-tear interface, creating a long-lasting anti-evaporative barrier.
MGD Relief: It interacts with the lipophilic parts of the native tear film and penetrates the meibomian glands to dissolve viscous, obstructive secretions. This increases tear film thickness and promotes corneal epithelial repair.
4. Safety and Warnings
Visual Disturbances: Transient blurred vision or visual impairment may occur immediately after instillation. Patients should be advised not to drive or operate machinery until their vision clears.
Ocular Surface Reactions: Ocular hyperemia (redness) and ocular pain may occur. If these symptoms persist or worsen, discontinuation should be considered.
5. Adverse Reactions and Clinical Research
Most Common Adverse Reactions: Blurred vision, ocular hyperemia, ocular pain, and eye irritation.
Clinical Research Highlights: Phase 3 randomized controlled trials demonstrated that perfluorohexyloctane eye drops significantly reduced the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease associated with MGD with a favorable safety and tolerability profile.
6. Drug Interactions
Ophthalmic Agents: No formal drug-drug interaction studies have been conducted. However, if other ophthalmic medicinal products are being used, they should be administered at least 15 minutes after perfluorohexyloctane eye drops to avoid interference with the tear film barrier.
7. Pharmaceutical Information
Chemical Composition: Active ingredient: Perfluorohexyloctane (100%). The formulation is water-free and contains no oils, surfactants, or preservatives.
Appearance: Clear, colorless to pale yellow liquid.
Packaging: Available in single-dose dropper bottles (e.g., 3 mL).
