1. Indications and Usage
Spasm and Pain Relief: For antispasmodic and analgesic effects in the urinary and reproductive tracts and the biliary tract.
Obstetric Pain: Used for dyskinetic dystocia, postpartum uterine contraction pain, and dysmenorrhea.
Gastrointestinal Pain: Relieves acute and subacute abdominal pain caused by gastrointestinal muscle spasms.
2. Dosage and Administration
Adults: The usual dosage is 1 tablet (10 mg) taken 3 to 4 times daily.
Emergency Situations: In urgent cases, up to 2 tablets may be taken at once.
3. Mechanism of Action
Smooth Muscle Relaxation: Rociverine acts selectively on visceral smooth muscles with a papaverine-like effect, providing strong antispasmodic action.
Cardiovascular Safety: It has no significant effect on the cardiovascular system.
Anticholinergic Activity: It exhibits an atropine-like parasympathetic blocking effect but with a lower incidence of adverse reactions compared to atropine.
4. Safety and Warnings
Contraindications: Contraindicated in patients with glaucoma, prostatic hyperplasia, urinary retention, pyloric stenosis, or other gastrointestinal strictures.
Special Populations: Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease (e.g., coronary heart disease, hypertension) and the elderly. There is no clinical experience with children.
Pregnancy and Lactation: Should only be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding if clearly necessary and under medical supervision.
Visual Impairment: The drug may cause visual disturbances; caution is required when driving or operating machinery.
5. Adverse Reactions and Clinical Research
Common Adverse Reactions: In sensitive patients, side effects may include dry mouth, mydriasis (pupil dilation), visual disturbances, tachycardia, drowsiness, astringent effects, flushing, and tremors.
Management: If these reactions occur, the dosage should be reduced. If necessary, the drug should be discontinued.
6. Drug Interactions
Additive Toxicity: Concomitant use with anticholinergic agents, steroids, or tricyclic antidepressants may increase the risk of glaucoma or urinary retention in sensitive patients.
