Receptor Modulation: Aripiprazole is a partial agonist at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors and an antagonist at serotonin 5-HT2A receptors.
Neurotransmitter Stabilization: This unique mechanism stabilizes dopaminergic and serotonergic neurotransmission, effectively treating positive symptoms (e.g., hallucinations, delusions) while maintaining cognitive and negative symptom function.
4. Safety and Warnings

Tardive Dyskinesia and NMS: Risk of irreversible movement disorders and Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS), a potentially fatal reaction.
Orthostatic Hypotension: May cause dizziness and syncope due to alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonism.
5. Adverse Reactions and Clinical Research
Adverse Reactions: Common adverse reactions include nausea, vomiting, constipation, headache, dizziness, akathisia (restlessness), extrapyramidal symptoms, and anxiety.
Clinical Research: Clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy and rapid onset of action of oral soluble films in controlling acute psychiatric symptoms with improved patient compliance compared to traditional tablet formulations.
6. Drug Interactions
CYP3A4 and CYP2D6 Inhibitors: Drugs like ketoconazole or fluoxetine can increase aripiprazole plasma concentrations; dose reduction is often required.
CYP3A4 Inducers: Drugs like carbamazepine can decrease aripiprazole plasma concentrations; dose increase may be necessary.
Antihypertensives: May potentiate orthostatic hypotension.
Other CNS Agents: Concomitant use with alcohol or other CNS depressants should be monitored.
