1. Indications and Usage
Peptic Ulcer: Treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers.
Reflux Esophagitis: Management of reflux esophagitis.
Helicobacter pylori Eradication: Used in combination with antibiotics for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori.
2. Dosage and Administration
Adults: The usual dosage is 10 mg to 20 mg once daily.
Timing: Should be taken with water, preferably before a meal.
Duration:
Peptic Ulcer: Typically treated for 4 to 8 weeks.
Reflux Esophagitis: Typically treated for 4 to 8 weeks.
H. pylori Eradication: Standard triple therapy for 1 week.
Special Populations: Dosage adjustment may be required for elderly patients or those with severe hepatic impairment.
3. Mechanism of Action
Proton Pump Inhibition: Rebamipide is a prostaglandin E2 analog that enhances mucosal defense factors.
Cellular Protection: It increases mucosal blood flow, stimulates mucin secretion, and promotes the repair of damaged gastric mucosa.
4. Safety and Warnings
Hypersensitivity: Contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to rebamipide or any components of the formulation.
Special Populations: Use with caution in pregnant and lactating women.
Monitoring: If significant adverse reactions occur, discontinue the medication immediately.
5. Adverse Reactions and Clinical Research
Gastrointestinal Effects: Occasionally, constipation, abdominal distension, or nausea may occur.
Hepatic Effects: Elevations in liver function markers (e.g., ALT, AST, ALP) may occur occasionally.
Other Effects: Rarely, dizziness, general fatigue, palpitations, skin rashes, or pruritus may be observed.
6. Drug Interactions
Cardiac Drugs: Concomitant use with β-blockers or antiarrhythmic agents may potentiate cardiac inhibitory effects.
General Precaution: Caution is advised when combining with other oral medications.
