1. Indications and Usage
Male Erectile Dysfunction: Indicated for the treatment of male erectile dysfunction by dilating penile artery vessels, increasing cavernous body blood flow, improving erectile function, increasing penile hardness, and prolonging the duration of erection.
2. Dosage and Administration
Standard Dose: The usual adult dosage is one capsule (40 mg) taken orally.
Administration: Should be taken 30 minutes before sexual activity. Do not take more than once a day.
3. Mechanism of Action
Alpha-Adrenergic Blockade: Phentolamine mesylate acts as an alpha-adrenergic receptor blocker on both alpha-1 and alpha-2 receptors.
Vasodilation: This action dilates blood vessels and reduces peripheral vascular resistance, facilitating increased blood flow to the penile cavernous body to improve erectile function.
4. Safety and Warnings
Contraindications: Contraindicated in patients with hypotension, severe arteriosclerosis, organic heart damage, renal insufficiency, gastric and duodenal ulcers, and those with known hypersensitivity to this product.
Precautions: Patients should be monitored for potential cardiovascular side effects such as tachycardia and hypotension.
5. Adverse Reactions and Clinical Research
Common Adverse Reactions: Nasal congestion, headache, dizziness, flushed face, indigestion, diarrhea, urinary tract infection, fatigue, chest tightness, mild hallucinations, and rash.
Serious Adverse Reactions: Palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmia, nausea, vomiting, hypotension, and orthostatic hypotension.
6. Drug Interactions
Nitroglycerin Drugs: Cannot be used in combination with nitroglycerin drugs.
Sympathomimetic Amines: May offset or weaken the peripheral vasoconstriction effect of sympathomimetic amines.
Guanethidine: Increases the incidence of orthostatic hypotension or bradycardia.
Diazoxide: Inhibits the effect of diazoxide on insulin release.
Sedative Hypnotics & Antihypertensives: Phenobarbital, doxepin, reserpine, and similar drugs can enhance the antihypertensive effect of phentolamine.
Cardiac Glycosides: May enhance toxic reactions of cardiac glycosides.
Iron Preparations: Avoid concurrent use with iron preparations.
