1. Indications and Usage
Peptic Ulcer: Indicated for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers.
Gastritis: Used for the management of chronic gastritis and associated acid-related symptoms.
2. Dosage and Administration
Standard Dose: The usual dosage for adults is 2–3 capsules per dose, taken 3 times daily.
Administration: Taken orally after meals with water.
Duration: Continuous use should generally not exceed 7 days. If symptoms persist, consult a physician.
3. Mechanism of Action
Mucosal Protection: Vitamin U (S-methylmethionine) promotes the regeneration of gastric and duodenal mucosa and inhibits gastric acid secretion.
Antacid Effect: Aluminium hydroxide neutralizes excess gastric acid and protects the mucosal lining.
Antispasmodic Effect: Belladonna extract reduces gastrointestinal smooth muscle spasms and inhibits excessive acid secretion.
4. Safety and Warnings
Glaucoma and Prostatic Hypertrophy: Contraindicated in patients with glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, or urinary tract obstruction due to the belladonna component.
Renal Impairment: Use with caution in patients with renal dysfunction, as aluminium accumulation may occur.
Special Populations: Use in pregnancy, lactation, and children should be under strict medical supervision.
5. Adverse Reactions and Clinical Research
Common Adverse Reactions: Dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation or diarrhea, and dizziness.
Anticholinergic Effects: Tachycardia and urinary retention may occur.
Resolution: These symptoms are usually mild and typically resolve spontaneously upon discontinuation of the drug.
6. Drug Interactions
Antacids: Concurrent use with other antacids may alter gastric pH and drug absorption.
Cardiac Glycosides: Antacids may reduce the absorption of digoxin.
Other Medications: May interact with other drugs; consult a physician if taking other medications simultaneously.
