1. Indications and Usage
Constipation: Short-term treatment of occasional constipation.
Fecal Softening: Indicated for patients with anorectal conditions (e.g., hemorrhoids, anal fissures) or post-surgical patients who require stool softening to avoid straining during defecation.
2. Dosage and Administration
Adults: The usual dosage is 50 to 200 mg daily, taken in divided doses. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 500 mg.
Children: The dosage is typically 5 mg/kg per day, administered in multiple divided doses.
Administration: Tablets should be taken orally. It usually takes 1 to 3 days to take effect.
Duration: For occasional constipation, treatment should not exceed 1 week unless directed by a physician.

Surface Tension Reduction: Docusate sodium is an anionic surfactant that lowers the surface tension of the liquid in the intestine.
