1. Indications and Usage
Hypertension: Bevantolol Hydrochloride Tablets are indicated for the management of mild to moderate essential hypertension.
2. Dosage and Administration
Standard Dose: The usual adult dosage is 50 mg twice daily.
Titration: If the antihypertensive effect is inadequate, the dosage may be increased to 100 mg twice daily. Dosage should be individualized based on patient response.
3. Mechanism of Action
Beta-Adrenergic Blockade: Bevantolol is a beta-adrenergic blocker with both beta-1 and beta-2 receptor blocking activity.
Cardiovascular Effects: It exerts a negative chronotropic effect, reducing heart rate and cardiac output, which contributes to its antihypertensive action.
4. Safety and Warnings
Contraindications: Contraindicated in patients with second- or third-degree atrioventricular block, sinus bradycardia, decompensated heart failure, bronchial asthma, metabolic acidosis, and severe peripheral arterial disease.
Cardiovascular Precautions: The drug may induce heart failure; patients should be monitored closely, and appropriate measures taken if symptoms of heart failure appear.
Respiratory and Metabolic: Due to beta-2 blocking activity, it may cause bronchial spasms. It can also mask the symptoms of hypoglycemia in diabetic patients.
5. Adverse Reactions and Clinical Research
Common Adverse Reactions: The most frequent adverse reactions include bradycardia, hypotension, heart failure, cardiac conduction inhibition, and bronchial spasm.
Systemic Effects: Other reported reactions include fatigue, cold extremities, gastrointestinal disturbances, rash, pruritus, reversible alopecia, and impotence.
6. Drug Interactions
Other Cardiac Inhibitors: Concomitant use with other cardiac inhibitors (e.g., calcium channel blockers like verapamil, digoxin) may lead to additive effects, increasing the risk of bradycardia and heart failure.
Anesthetics: Concurrent use with general anesthetics may cause myocardial inhibition.
Antidiabetic Agents: May interfere with the action of insulin or oral antidiabetic drugs.
7. Pharmaceutical Information
Active Ingredient: Bevantolol Hydrochloride.
