Vancocin® is the commercial brand name of Vancomycin Hydrochloride Capsules, a glycopeptide antibacterial agent. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis and exerts bactericidal activity against gram-positive pathogens.
Main Indications
For the treatment of pseudomembranous colitis caused by Clostridioides difficile; also used for staphylococcal enterocolitis. Oral vancomycin is not effective for systemic infections.
Clinical Research
Clinical trials demonstrated that oral vancomycin achieves high drug concentration within the gastrointestinal tract. It is superior to metronidazole for severe or recurrent C. difficile infection, with high clinical response rates for first-episode infection. Systemic absorption is minimal after oral administration.

Other common reactions: dysgeusia. Rare serious adverse events include hypersensitivity reactions. Ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity rarely occur with oral use due to low systemic absorption.
